چکیده

b a ckground: the present study was designed to investigate the insecticidal efficacy of four different classes of in-secticides: pyrethroids, organophosphates, phenyl-pyrazoles and neo-nicotenoids. one representative chemical from each class was selected to compare the toxicity: deltamethrin from pyrethroids, dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate (ddvp) from organophosphates, fipronil from phenyl-pyrazoles and imidacloprid from neo-nicotenoids. the objec- tive of this study was to determine which of these insecticides were most effective against american cockroach. methods: these insecticides were tested for their lc50 values against periplaneta americana under topical bioassay method, using different concentrations for each chemical. results: fipronil 2.5% ec was highly effective at all concentrations applied, while ddvp 50% ec was least toxic amongst all. one way analysis of variance confirmed significant differences between mortality of p. americana and different concentrations applied (p< 0.05). conclusion: locality differentiation is an important factor in determining the range of resistance between various localities, as all three localities behaved differently in terms of their levels of resistance.

Population ecology and movement of the American cockroach (Dictyoptera: Blattidae) in sewers.

The population size, age-class structure, and movement of the American cockroach, Periplaneta americana (L.) (Dictyoptera: Blattidae), were studied in three sewers in Penang, Malaysia, from September 2008 to October 2009. Eighteen to 20 glass-jar traps (two per manhole) were deployed for a 24-h period during each sampling occasion at each sewer. Adults and nymphs were active throughout the stud...

The comparison of contact toxicity of three formulations of lambda-cyhalothrin against German cockroach adults

Introduction: The German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.), is one of the most serious household insect pests. Current control strategies rely heavily upon application of various formulations of insecticides. The purpose of the present study was to test the short-term effects of formulation of capsule suspension in comparison with formulations of wet table powder and emulsifiable concentrate ...

Toxicity of Abamectin and Hydramethylnon to Insecticide-susceptible and Resistant Strains of German Cockroach (dictyoptera: Blattellidae),

The toxicities of two new insecticides, hydramet.hylnon and abamectin, were evaluated against one susceptible and seven insecticide-resistant strains of 81attella gennanica. (L.) Both materials proved to be potent insecticides against the susceptible strain. There was no difference in toxicity, based on LTfoO values, of hydramethylnon between resistant and susceptible strains in a feeding bioas...

Repellency and Toxicity of Mint Oil to American and German Cockroaches (Dictyoptera: Blattidae and Blattellidae)

The repellency and toxicity of mint oil to American, Periplaneta americana (L.), and German, Blattella germanica (L.), cockroaches were evaluated in a series of laboratory experiments. In topical application experiments, mint oil was toxic to both species with toxicities (LD50s) of 2.57 (1.98– 4.20) in 10 l and 3.83 (2.35–7.34)% in 2 l for American and German cockroaches, respectively. In conti...

Attractiveness of insecticide baits for cockroach control (Dictyoptera: Blattellidae): laboratory and field studies.

Several insecticide bait formulations were evaluated for their attractiveness to cockroaches in olfactometer assays in the laboratory and in trapping experiments in the field. Included in the assays were bait stations, gels, pastes, and a powder that contained one of the following active ingredients: abamectin, boric acid, chlorpyrifos, or hydramethylnon. There were significant differences amon...
